Thursday Thoughts

Hey Friends, photo I hope everyone is making this a wonderful week! I am particularly excited about today because Phil and I are celebrating the anniversary of our first date. Two years ago today we met at a local Philadelphia favorite, Pub & Kitchen, photo-2for dinner and drinks. If the fact that we’re now engaged to be married and living across the country isn’t evidence that things are always changing, I don’t know what is! I’m elated by the idea of spending the rest of my life with this amazing man and over the moon we’ve  decided to enjoy this crazy roller coaster of life together!photo-3 More importantly though, I’m so blessed to be with someone who recognizes that life is always changing. We have the choice to evolve and get on board with the opportunities we’re given, or let them pass us by. While change isn’t always the easiest or most comfortable thing in the world, it’s a part of life. photoI’ve found that in embracing  the inevitability of change, I don’t find it to be as scary anymore. I’ve never been someone to enjoy change all that much, nor has Phil, but being together we’ve changed each other, ironically enough. Today, we’re open to the possibility of what changes are ahead and celebrate the unknown. We’re both so excited to embrace this year of change & enjoy what life brings in the years to come!

’til next time, keep smiling! 🙂

Rainy Day Relationship Revelations

Image

This afternoon’s lunch hour was spent with one of my close friends and mentors Kristin, owner of Nourishing Storm. She is a fellow nutrition student at IIN and has been the most amazing influence along my journey!

Our intention was to have a lovely lunch in the park, to catch up, and for me to practice doing health history consultations for school. Of course, as soon as I stepped out of my car, the skies opened and it began to down pour! Being the nature loving ladies we are, we both commented on how awesome the rain felt and didn’t let it alter our plans – the blanket just got set out on the gazebo floor instead of the grass!

After the consultation, which went really well, we got to talking about how things are going in each of our lives. As we reached the topic of my relationship, and healthy relationships in general, she said something very powerful that I guess I’ve always known but often forget. Ironically enough, it had been the topic of her morning meditation.

Kristin said that we have everything we need within ourselves and its once we’re able to recognize and celebrate that completeness that we find the partner we’re meant to share this journey with. While that may sound a bit lofty, its totally true.

I believe in my heart if I had met my boyfriend even a few months earlier than I did, we wouldn’t be together. It wasn’t until I was happily on my path and finding fulfillment in everyday that I could be open to attracting ‘the right’ guy!

Always remember you’re perfect and complete just the way you are! Finding a partner in life is a blessing, not a requirement! Love you first!

Learn to Lean

Image

I don’t know about anyone else but one of the hardest things for me to do is give up control and rely on other people. I always think of the Stuart skits from the Mad TV days…”I can do it! … Lemme do it!” haha!

I joke but its totally true, I have a hard time leaning on others. Perhaps in part because I don’t want to impose, burden, inconvenience, etc… anyone, but also because I think if I can’t take on the world all by myself, than I’m weak.

I know in my heart that true strength is recognizing your own limitations and reaching out when necessary; which is why I have enlisted the help of my family (including soon to be brother-in-law), boyfriend and friends to move.

While I would love to think I could tackle this all own my own, the reality is I can’t! Though its hard for me, I need to learn to lean…even just a little!

Sweet Sweet Love

There is nothing quite like a wedding to remind you of how deliciously sweet love can be! I am in the throws of many wedding celebrations but this weekend was a huge reminder of the importance of sharing love with family and friends.

While the better, richer, and healthier times don’t test love’s bond quite as much as the worse, poorer nor sick times, supporting each other through everyday challenges is what loves all about!

Whether its the love of a newly married couple or the love of friends and family, never forget how sweet it is!

Blessing Abound

Happy Monday! Remembering to count your blessings is important! Today I wanted to take a moment to recognize two people for whom I am most grateful: my mother, Caroline and my sister, Kara.ladies2

This weekend was my sister’s bridal shower I couldn’t be more proud for my sister nor more grateful for all my mother’s help in planning, organizing and hosting the event (in conjunction with the 4 bridesmaids and my aunt/sister’s godmother)!

Its times like these that I am reminded how remarkable these women, and all the women in my family truly are! The grace with which my sister handled herself in this insane heat and the calm with which my mother carried herself while all these beautifully dressed women piled into her home was truly something to be admired (I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off and sweating like a pig, haha!).

I know there are a million things I could be thankful for on any given day, but I wanted to take a moment to note how blessed I am to have such awesome role models!
