Thursday Thoughts

Making a major change in life is never easy. While it can be full of excitement and fun, there are times when being away from the familiar really smacks ya in the face. When Phil and I moved to San Francisco it was definitely exciting but I missed home and family a lot.photo-5As we slowly settle in, those feelings aren’t as frequent, but when they come they’re more intense – more doubt, more fear, and a little more pain. When I think of all the things I am missing back home its often hard to remember the things that are so great about being on this adventure….and there really are a lot of great things! Chief among them my handsome husband to be.

photo-6 I am so lucky to be here with someone who cares enough to buy my flowers because he knows how happy they make me, who meets me when I work late because he doesn’t want me riding my bike alone at night, and showers me with love…it’s also pretty nice to have such wonderful weather, be so close to so many amazing destinations, and live in a city full of excitement 😉 but I must say the best thing about San Francisco is Phil!

photo-7Feelings of homesickness are going to come up, we’ve only been here 12 weeks, but as long as I remember I have everything I need right here with me, everything will be fine!

Getting over the hump!

Happy Hump Day Friends!

Life has been a whirlwind, as always, and I am just trying to keep all the balls in the air. Phil and I are heading home to PA in two weekends…it’ll be my bridal shower and baby Brayden’s Christening, as well as mother’s day and my parent’s anniversary!!photo(2)I am super excited for my shower but a bit nervous to be the center of attention. It’s going to be a blast…even though I know nothing about it at all! My sister and my mother do an excellent job with events so I have no doubts the shower will be a day to remember!! I feel very guilty about leaving Pasta Gina though. As the manager I feel a sense of obligation to be there all the time and make sure things are perfect. The owners are like family and the success of their business matters BUT I know I am only one person, they’ll survive 5 days without me. photo(3)Yoga training has been going well..I am practicing at a studio near work and enjoying the inspiration from other teachers…I am also hoping I get convince the owner to add me to the sub list, but all good things in time!

Taking it to the next level

Hey there friends! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week…can you believe April is almost over?!?!?! This month has flown by and I can’t believe I will be Mrs. April in less than 6 months…WOWZA!! While we’ve been doing well with diet and exercise, it’s time to kick it up a notch. My bridal shower and the christening of my godson Brayden are in just a little over two weeks and we both want to look our best for the big events.

For me, this means watching my carbohydrate intake and adding some extra core work. For Phil, this means adding in some extra cardio and strength work but no real dietary changes. I find it so interesting how men and women have such varying reactions to diet and lifestyle changing…it’s so fascinating! Even though I am doing about 60 minutes of cardio 5x a week and practicing yoga daily, my carbohydrate intake has not necessarily helped me loose any weight. I have been getting stronger and building muscle but now I’d like to drop a little around the waistline and inner thighs, hahaha!

Just like always I am not going to deprive myself entirely BUT by cutting out half my carbohydrates and incorporating a little more core focus into my yoga practices I know things will continue to change.

I can’t wait for all the excitement of May but am going to do my best to stay in the moment and enjoy this last week or so of April (soon to be my favorite month, haha!)!!!

Twisted Tuesday

I hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful day! I started my morning with a little meditation and a fun, twisty flow to ring out anything left behind from my two days off! With less than 6 months until the wedding I need to make sure I am giving my body everything it needs which includes incorporating a weekly practice dedicated to twisting.

There are a ton of cleansing health benefits to a twisting practice, its a lot of fun, AND it can help narrow your waistline….SO I’m thinking its a win all around! It might not always be on a Tuesday but it seems logical for it to always fall the day after my ‘weekend,’ so I can start my week fresh!

I encourage everyone to add a little twist to their day!

Back to life…

Welcome to another wonderful week friends!

Phil and I had a nice weekend, minus the the dose of food poisoning I got from brunch yesterday! I should have known not to get poached eggs, whats more I should have ordered something else when I had to send them back for being underdone, but of course I tried to eat it and I shouldn’t have…OH WELL! Like the perfect man he is, Phil took amazing care of me and I am happy to be feeling more alive today.photo(1)Things have been going really well! Work is great and I am super excited to be making a home at such a unique place. I’ve been riding to and from work every day so the built in cardio is helping balance our delicious pasta dinners! My body needs simple carbs for easy fuel and my soul enjoys the comfort food!

Thursday Thoughts

We are one day away from the weekend friends! Work has been busy but good and I am super excited for a weekend of yoga, outdoor fun and time with Phil! I am grateful now more than ever for my yoga practice – standing on my feet all day long makes me very stiff…I am looking forward to a long yoga session on Saturday morning! Admittedly, it would be easy for me to fall out of my yoga routine now that I am working in the food industry and away from teaching and coaching but I am constantly inspired by the lovely yogis in my life!

These women remind me just how much I love my own practice and how bountiful and beautiful are our yoga community is…no matter where we are we’re all connected & constantly inspired by each other! There is a sense of empowerment that comes over me when I watch a fellow yogi conquer a difficult posture or hear about their studio growing & thriving – it’s a reminder of how much there is still left to achieve & I am blessed to have such inspiration!

Making it work

Getting back into a groove with my diet & exercise regime has been challenging – I recently started a new job at an artisan Italian shop where the hours can be long and the food is incredible. Pasta Gina focuses of fresh pastas, raviolis, sauces, spreads, soups, salads, and classic entrees; so as I am sure you can imagine, taking home dinner every night is quickly becoming routine. I have been careful to avoid the tiramisu, cannoli, and other tempting treats BUT still need to be sure our pasta dinners are carefully balanced with the right amount of cardio and less wheat/grains throughout the day.

Today I woke up with some yoga, road my bike to work, and plan to squeeze some mid afternoon yoga in as well…I may not be able to dedicate 90 minutes to practice or 60 minutes to cardio but 30 minutes a few times a day adds up!

April Beginnings!

Happy Easter Monday Friends! Life has been a little bit hectic the last two weeks so I haven’t been able to post, sorry guys 😦 Phil and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Philadelphia – seeing family was great and of course it felt too short – we were both sad to leave, but know the weeks until our trip back in May will fly by!

IMG_0299
We have also started, albeit slowly, our wedding restart diet! We have been trying to eat smarter and do a little cardio everyday! Since we’re both trying to get back to our healthier selves, and have seven months until the wedding, we’re going to slowly build a healthy habits. It’s never easy coming back from a period of indulgence, but it’s always good to take it slow so that the healthy changes stick!
