Looks yummy, right?
Some people have the misconception that eating healthfully means you can’t have anything indulgent – especially not chocolate!
What’s worse is people turn to artificially sweetened, mass produced, preservative packed “diet” versions of their favorite desserts as a compromise…and they’re left largely unsatisfied.
As part of a healthy lifestyle, you should always reward yourself – with the real thing! There is no reason you shouldn’t have a little something sweet after a hard day’s work!
Try this chocolate angel food cake as a healthy and delicious indulgence at 130 calories a serving! Unlike most diet desserts it is made from 6 natural ingredients (flour, cocoa, sugar, egg whites, cream of tartar and salt) and tastes incredible, not artificial!
Enjoy…
no recipe? 😦
Preheat oven to 325
3/4 c flour, 1/4 c cocoa, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 3/4 cup sugar, 1 heavy teaspoon cream of tartar, 12 egg whites, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
Sift flour and cocoa together (2-3 times). Add salt and 3/4 cup sugar to flour mixture and stir until incorporated.
Separate the egg whites into a bowl, add vanilla and beat until thick and foamy. Sprinkle the cream of tartar in and continue to beat until you can form peaks (this counts so don’t get impatient!)
Take remaining sugar and add to the eggs 1/4 at a time. Continue to beat until you get stiff, shiny peaks.
Fold dry into wet a little at a time and once well mixed, pour into and ungreased angel food cake pan. Bake @ 325 for 45 minutes.
Top with sliced strawberries and serve with fresh whipped cream!
Thank you!
What ingredient will work instead of cream of tartar?
Lemon juice or vinegar in this instance but it won’t be EXACTLY the same.
Good luck!
I will have to look over the ingredients again before deciding to bake this. 12 egg whites sounds like too much for 1 cake!
Keep on writing because this is the kind of stuff we all need
